Touaou is a 51-foot multihull catamaran (Fioleau design). Built in 1989 by a Brasilian shipyard using stripplanking method for the hulls and woodcraft for accomodations. She is equipped with a full batten main sail of 75 sqm, a 20 sqm solent jib, a 65 sqm gennaker, and a 120 sqm spinnaker. Two diesel engines Yanmar 47 hp Turbo are of good help when there is no wind. For the usual 15 knots wind, Touaou speed vary from 6 kts on beating leg (45° from the wind direction) to 10 kts on the broach reaching (100 to 150°). |
Touaou is a cruising multihull catamaran which travelled across two oceans, this is an ideal platform for a safety sailing as well on the open sea as inside the lagoon. Handling is easy thanks to two electric winches located inside the cockpit. Customers are welcomed if they want to participate to the handling and manoeuvres, as long as they follow the safety precautions described by the skipper.

Touaou is one of the name given to soot terns, sea bird which can be seen around islands located in the tropical and subtropical waters of Indian Ocean, Pacific and Atlantic oceans. Soot terns are excellent seafarers, flying endlessly over the sea.
